Hi! I'm Joy

I created The Early Intervention Tutorials  for you

Hey there! I want to introduce myself. My name is Joy and I’m so glad you’re here!

I remember what it was like being a brand new educator working with young kids on the spectrum. I had no idea what I was doing.

I had worked with adults before, but working with kids was a whole other ball game.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, educator, therapist, etc., it can be so overwhelming trying to find ways to individualize intervention so that the child you’re working with can make the most progress.

I created the Early Intervention Tutorials to help simplify your life. I know you want the absolute best for the kid(s) you’re working with.

I’ll teach you how to easily adapt activities to target specific skills while having fun and strengthening relationships.

Are The EI Tutorials Right For You?

Wondering if the Early Intervention Tutorials will work for you?

The EI Tutorials ARE for:
  • Anyone working with a child who…
    • Is 6 years old or younger
    • Has a developmental delay or autism
    • Only engages in very brief interactions
    • Rarely plays with others
    • Does not pay attention
    • Rarely imitates others
    • Has limited language and communication skills
    • Does not participate in complex pretend play or is just beginning to engage in simple pretend play
  • Parents, grandparents, nanny’s, etc.
  • Professionals new to the field
    • Early Interventionists
    • Special Ed Teachers
    • Regular Ed Teachers
    • Occupational Therapists
    • Speech and Language Pathologists
    • Any other therapists working with kids
  • Professionals looking for extra support and training for the families they work with
  • Parents and professionals looking for a developmental and/or relationship-based approach to intervention
The EI Tutorials are NOT for:
  • Parents or professionals working with kids older than 6 years old
  • People working primarily with kids that are participating in complex pretend play
  • People looking for training on behavioral approaches to intervention
  • People looking for direct instruction approaches
  • People looking for a cure
  • People who don’t have the time to implement what is taught
  • Experts in the field who feel they have enough tools and training for their current needs

  • You may be on waiting lists for a screening, an evaluation, a diagnosis, therapy. There are so many waiting lists!
  • There are things you can do to help your child while you’re “waiting” and the EI Tutorials will help you know what and how to do it.

PROFESSIONALS

The Early Intervention Tutorials can help professionals too!

  • Your caseloads are overwhelming
  • Your planning time is limited
  • It’s hard to do therapy (all the stuff you learned with your degree) when you’re working with a child that doesn’t engage (what they forgot to teach you in school)
  • You want to help train parents, but sometimes there’s just not enough time in your sessions
  • The EI Tutorials can help you save time and find effective ways to get more engagement so that you can have more effective therapy sessions.
  • You’ll also find simple ways you can teach parents to work with their kids at home.

FAQ

The tutorials are for anyone who works  with a child 6 and younger with developmental delays. You do not have to be an Early Interventionist by profession.

The EI Tutorials are all play-based. Some strategies are based on the Play Project, which is a developmental and relationship based intervention. I first received my Play Project Consultant Certification in 2009. Other strategies come from my  Master’s of Education degree, Early Childhood Special Education degree and experiences over the years.

No. Your child does not need a diagnosis for the tutorials to be applicable for you. Here are some reasons you may want to take this course:

  • If your child needs help with social skills
  • If your child has a difficult time engaging with adults and/or peers
  • If your child has a difficult time communicating needs and wants
  • If your child does not generally play
  • If your child is not participating in complex pretend play

Yes. The tutorials are geared towards kids ages 6 and under.

No. The tutorials are focused on developmental progress and relationships. Although building a strong relationship is a key component to managing behavior, behavior interventions are not covered in this course.

Autism is a spectrum, and no child is exactly the same. There are however, different stages that kids go through as they progress developmentally. In the tutorials I explain these stages and teach you how to determine what stage your child is at. You’ll then learn how to individualize different techniques and strategies according to what stage your child is at.

If you want to be able to supplement the learning your child is receiving outside of your home, this is the perfect way to do that. The tips and strategies  can be used during play sessions, or they can be used during your every day activities. Sometimes just tweaking the things you’re already doing can have a big effect.

"Don't underestimate the power of play. Through play you can strengthen relationships, increase communication and improve development"

~Joy Manning, M.Ed.
